Elected Officials

Mayor

The Mayor is the official head of our government. The Mayor is the town’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer and can call on the Governor of Virginia for aid in the event of civil disorder or natural disaster. The Mayor presides at Town Council meetings and has the same rights and duties as other Council members.

  • Don Richwine, Mayor
Town Council
The Town Council establishes and enforces our policies, codes and ordinances. They approve the budget, set our tax rates, make land use decisions and appoint citizens to our boards and commissions and other positions.
The Town Council meets in Town Council Chambers on the second floor of the Town Office, 45 Cross Street,  at 7:00 pm on the third Monday of the month, except in January and February, when it meets on the fourth Monday. The Finance, Utilities, and Parks and Recreation Committees of the Town Council meet on an as-needed basis. There is a stair lift for those who cannot take the steps to Council chambers. The Council encourages its constituents to attend and participate in town government.
